7 Principles Of An Eagle – Dr. Myles Monroe

by

PRINCIPLE 1

Eagles fly alone at high altitude and not with sparrows or other small birds. No other bird can got to the height of the eagle. Stay away from sparrows and ravens.

Eagles fly with Eagles

PRINCIPLE 2

Eagles have strong vision. They have the ability to focus on something up to five kilometers away. When an eagle sites his prey, he narrows his focus on it and set out to get it. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it.

Have a vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacle and you will succeed.

PRINCIPLE 3

Eagles do not eat dead things. They feed only on fresh prey. Vultures eat dead animals, but eagles will not.

Be careful with what you feed your eyes and ears with, especially in movies and on TV. Steer clear of outdated and old information. Always do your research well.

PRINCIPLE 4

Eagles love the storm. When clouds gather, the eagles get excited. The eagle uses the storm’s wind to lift it higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagles uses the raging storm to lift him above the
clouds. This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the leaves and branches of the trees.

We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers relish challenges and use them profitably.

PRINCIPLE 5

The Eagle tests before it trusts. When a female eagle meets a male and they want to mate, she flies down to earth with the male pursuing her and she picks a twig. She flies back into the air with the male pursuing her.
Once she has reached a height high enough for her, she lets the twig fall to the ground and watches it as it falls. The male chases after the twig. The faster it falls, the faster he chases it. He has to catch it before it
falls to the ground. He then brings it back to the female eagle.

The female eagle grabs the twig and flies to a higher altitude and then drops the twig for the male to chase. This goes on for hours, with the height increasing until the female eagle is assured that the male eagle has mastered the art of catching the twig which shows commitment. Then and only then, will she allow him to mate with her.

Whether in private life or in business, one should test commitment of people intended for partnership.

PRINCIPLE 6

When ready to lay eggs, the female and male eagle identify a place very high on a cliff where no predators can reach. The male flies to earth and picks thorns and lays them on the crevice of the cliff, then flies to earth again to collect twigs which he lays in the intended nest. He flies back to earth and picks thorns laying them on top of the twigs. He flies back to earth and picks soft grass to cover the thorns. When this first layering is complete the male eagle runs back to earth and picks more thorns, lays them on the nest; runs back to get grass it on top of the thorns, then plucks his feathers to complete the nest. The thorns on the outside of the nest protect it from possible intruders. Both male and female eagles participate in raising the eagle family. She lays the eggs and protects them; he builds the nest and hunts. During the time of training the young ones to fly, the mother eagle throws the eaglets out of the nest. Because they are scared, they jump into the nest again.

Next, she throws them out and then takes off the soft layers of the nest, leaving the thorns bare When the scared eaglets again jump into the nest, they are pricked by thorns. Shrieking and bleeding they jump out again this time wondering why the mother and father who love them so much are torturing them. Next, mother eagle pushes them off the cliff into the air. As they shriek in fear, father eagle flies out and catches them up on his back before they fall and brings them back to the cliff. This goes on for sometime until they start flapping their wings. They get excited at this newfound knowledge that they can fly.

The preparation of the nest teaches us to prepare for changes; The preparation for the family teaches us that active participation of both partners leads to success; The being pricked by the thorns tells us that sometimes being too comfortable where we are may result into our not experiencing life, not progressing and not learning at all. The thorns of life come to teach us that we need to grow, get out of the nest and live on. We may not know it but the seemingly comfortable and safe haven may have thorns.

The people who love us do not let us languish in sloth but push us hard to grow and prosper. Even in their seemingly bad actions they have good intentions for us.

PRINCIPLE 7

When an Eagle grows old, his feathers become weak and cannot take him as fast as he should. When he feels weak and about to die, he retires to a place far away in the rocks. While there, he plucks out every feather on his body until he is completely bare. He stays in this hiding place until he has grown new feathers, then he can come out.

We occasionally need to shed off old habits & items that burden us without adding to our lives.

i find it more enjoying & even better still i find it inspiring

  2. Alex Says:

Dr. Myles is a man with tremendous ability to pick the principles out of the bluring concepts that society reshafled.

  3. Curious and Concerned Says:

Hello, I am a Christian and believe that Jesus is my Lord and Savior and I have been doing research on Eagles and why they are in the Bible so much. I don’t want to be of disrespect, but a couple of your principle are incorrect.
#3, you said that eagles do not eat dead things, but they do. They eat carrion which is “dead and putrefying flesh”. (www.dictionary.com; http://www.indiana.edu/~bradwood/eagles/eat.htm; http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle3.html; http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle-facts.html)

This could be one of the reasons God told the Isrealites that eagles were unclean in Lev. 11:13 NIV ‘These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture….”

#4 – It is not proved that the eagle loves storms. It is true however, that they soar and use the air current. It is possible that during a storm they could use the wind to lift them. But, someone has fabricated this story without real, factual, scientific proof.

#6 – I love picturing this, but after doing extensive research, I can not find any solid facts or evidence that this true.

#7 is false as well. “For those of you who have e-mailed me wondering if it’s true that an eagle goes into seclusion, plucks all of its feathers, sheds its beak and talons, and then renews itself, is a myth. An eagle’s beak and talons grow continuously, because they are made of keratin, the same substance as our hair and fingernails. Eagles molt in patches, taking almost half a year to replace feathers, starting with the head and working downward. Not all feathers are replaced in a given molt. An eagle without feathers, talons, and a beak would die of starvation and exposure. (www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle-myths.html)”

“The PowerPoint presentation circulating the Internet is a myth and metaphor intended to encourage and strengthen people. Eagles do not go into seclusion, pluck out their feathers, beak and talons, and then after five months emerge renewed. It’s a myth! (http://www.baldeagleinfo.com/eagle/eagle-myths.html)”

My purpose for this is not to argue. I am a Christian and I am researching why the Bible mentions the eagle as much as it does. But in my research, I have found out that many of these things that not only you, but others, believe is true, is not.

I suggest you research further and maybe look at the websites I sited. It is full of interesting information. But, do make sure that any sites you look at are real and factual and not just something someone wrote without a Bibliography or references.

    • toyin Says:

Thanks for this, curious and concerned. I’ve done a lot of research to verify these ‘eagle traits’ and came out empty every single time. Perhaps the eagle in the myths refer to some kind of extinct bird species!

    • Tebogo Pule Says:

Hi Curious and Concerned, can you please share the results of your research on why the bible mentions the eagle as much as it does? It would be interesting to know, from your perspective. Thank you!

    • Michael Mudendah Says:

    • matthew Says:

hI! MR curious i believe in the principles of this great bird.peharps your research was about some other species, please re visit your facts well. do you know about the ants, what did the bible say about the ant, lets be wise, and ready to learn…….thank you.

    • bmt Says:

@curious,dont be so much critic.the principle are absolute can re-research about and ensure you research for all the species then you make deduction.i’m sure u’ll agree

    • peter wealthy Says:

How certain is the fact that all specie of eagle has been found. The Bible did mention the renewal of strength as the eagle. Biblical quotes are often spiritual therefore requires no scientific or biological evidence.

Can u explain the Virgin birth?
Can u explain the earth creation by God?

I think sciences are a mere discovery of all the hidden realities of spiritual truth in God’s kingdom.

      • Why yes I can Says:

Virgin Birth is widely accepted as a mistranslation to and from Greek. In ancient Greek “Virgin” is a stage of life meaning young woman, and not a woman who did not have sex. The original legend told of a young woman who would give birth to the messiah, and since translating to Greek has transformed to a woman who had never had sex giving birth. Language is a funny thing. There have been quite a few councils called to decide on a set belief around this one, and they chose the most fantastical of the approaches.

The God creating the Earth thing is something that even the Bible can not decide on how it went. There are two versions, and the order is quite varied in them. However again it is widely accepted that both versions were created during the Babylonian exile of the Jewish people and were presented as a kind of “f**k you” to the Babylonian gods, which were the sun and the moon most famously. In the Jewish (Christian and Muslim) creation myth the Babylonian gods were created in the first and second day, however the abrahamic god was always there. From there the stories split to tell of the creation of other things, and the more recognized telling of Adam and Lilith and Eve.

    • Keige, D Says:

Thanks Curious. Always thought that eagles eat live till i did some research too. Many folks in church have also been taught so. No disrespect either but rhymes with what Myles talks about staying away from old outdated information. A large part of this message is.

  4. charlie.16.englsih student Says:

with respect to Curious and Concerned
i understand your views and you have in no uncertainty with your resherch shown that some of the facts around eagles is not true

but the simple explanation of this is that this set of principles are not anything to do with eagles, they are simply used as an extended metaphor displaying a behavior in the animal kingdom and translating that into our lives as humans. i personally don’t think this set of principals should of referenced the eagles because its not animal we identify our selfs with very well but the point is these are simply a set of basic standards a person would generally need to be a strong minded and independent person.

but having said this i would wonder why it would be of any important to you as a self confessed Christian- because wouldn’t you live your life to how god and the holy bible would dictate? its just a thought as an atheists i find it most curious how people work with in organized religion because i simply am not well educated in that area. but what i do know is its principals like this that don’t require faith that are often turned to by people out side of religion.

in conclusion what I’m saying is it shouldn’t matter that the facts are wrong about eagles- the fact is its a set of standards that people can follow to if they wish to help them be all they can be. Curious and Concerned on the other hand has their faith in which to steer him

    thanks all
    any comments would be welcome

    • jeramey washburn Says:

Hello my friend, and God bless you. I do be-leave it matters whether what is said is correct or not. Your title said you where an English student, and from the beginning in English 101we are thought about how to present an essay. This essay in particular is represented to us as acts of fact depicting the behavior of eagles compared to how we live our spiritual lives. I saw no evidence that it was all meteorically placed together in order to just make a helpful point, but was in fact placed as a descriptive factual representation of how we should live our daily lives. Thank you for your post, It was fun to read, you can read mind below in the comments. thanks and God bless you study’s.

DAKTARI ( Swahili word for DR), keep it up and dont tire of your gift of inspiration. Please come to KENYA we need to be lectured by you on how we can maximize our potentials and revive all the areas of our lives.

  22. Jonah Omuyoma Says:

I love the eagle principles. They are inspiring and true especially for those people at the top of their careers. This is something all leaders must cherish

  23. Mike Wolfe Says:

The reason a Christian should care about Eagles is that the Word says we can renew our youth like the Eagles. If it is metaphorical it doesn’t matter, if in reality we can renew our youth and live as caleb did, youthful to our mid 80’s, then it would benefit us to know how an eagle does it. If it is a one time process or a continual process, does make a difference. The best scientific information coming out of a study at the University of Az. says it takes 147 days for an Eagle to re-feather it self. I believe that would make it a process not a one time deal. Ps 103 says to not forget any of His benefits, and that God does renew our youth like an Eagles.

  24. Siphiwo Mseti Says:

Once you read about the eagle you cannot stop wishing that all peace loving and prosperity conscious people could read and adopt these principles as a way of life for a better tomorrow where all people can live in harmony and respect other peoples right to freely demonstrate and express their feelings in a respectful and honourable manner.

  25. Francis Says:

Eagles are creatures of great strength and endurance.the test comes to know how to overcome them, they rise higher above challanges.

In the whole world,Zambia is the only nation with an Eagle on its national flag.Zambia has learned to overcome it obstacles and put its trust in God.

  36. Bernard Says:

The bible states clearly that ” these are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle being the first one (Lev 11:13), are we not then contradicting our Mighty makers when we use that as an example to try and win souls to Christ as some of us suggests. Let us not be conformed into the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

    • Shelia Says:

We are to detest them in the content of food. We are not to eat them. But the bible uses the eagle as an example of strength just as it uses the ant as a form of wisdom. Please lets’ not allow legalism to interfere with spiritualism. May God open your understanding to scripture.

      • Debbie Persaud Says:

I’m reading all these comments and yours is very interesting I do believe that’s what the Bible refers when it states to detest the eagles man has a way of putting wrong things in there diet….

  37. denis muturi Says:

a do agree with the principles of an eagle. In real sence eagle is very unique since it has also exra-ordinary character traits.

  38. charles nkuna Says:

i did like an eagle as GOD uses it as an example of being living ,how important it is to be compared to an eagle , it is true that an eagle can be in a high flying than any other birds.they said if u can see other which is in high position u know that is an eagle.u wont see any other bird when thers is an eagle .that’s why an eagle is the chief or king of all birds.

a human being comes second compared to an eagle through vission, and sensoring.

  46. agbiji, onor. m. Says:

    DR,
This is an amazing revelation from the life of the eagle. these principles are awesome. It will be helpful if you include what old eagle does with it’s claws and beak during it’s renewal excercise.

  47. GodIsGood Says:

I kind of hope that it is true that an eagle’s beak and talons grow continuously, being made of keratin, like hair and fingernails, because that makes the renewal process a daily occurance. Everyday is a new day, and if we don’t like the way things look, we trim off the parts that have become unbecoming > just like we do when we cut our hair and trim our nails. It’s not a painful process when done correctly. If we don’t clip our nails properly, though, we do get hangnails. Those are painful to remove, but can be avoided. God’s love, grace, mercy, and compassion help us to make the necessary changes in our lives in order for us to renew our strength so that we can live a long, satisfied life! Very encouraging!
Also, I know from experience that birds are very much a part of their babies learning to fly. Once when I was mowing I tried to move a seemingly forsaken baby from the ground so that I wouldn’t mow it over. The mama helped it back into the nest. It was so sweet to watch. Then, when my husband tried to move a seemingly forsaken baby bird from behind his truck, we found out that the parents were watching very close by, because they swooped at my husband, warning him to back off.
Finally, it doesn’t matter whether the eagle “loves” storms or not; the point is, they have the instinct to take advantage of the God-given ability to rise/soar above the storm.
God’s help is always available to us during stormy times. When we yield to Him, we will soar far above the enemies attempts to steal, to kill, and to destroy in our lives.

  48. Tonya Richardson Says:

Thank you, Dr.Myles for the 7 principles.I would like to share something I read with Curious and Concerned. The Belittling Tongue…….Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but ONLY what is HELPFUL for building others up according to their needs, that it may BENEFIT those who LISTEN!!!!!! EPHESIANS 4:29

  50. Sifiso Says:

The Weekend of the 24th to the 26th of September 2010. we had a youth camp and our theme was the renewal of youth like eagles, and i must say it was great, informative and filled with the holy spirit, for each and every member was willing to start a new chapter in their lives.

I must say these principles have made me regain my long lost confidence, and i will make sure to keep them vissible for my friends to read, and together we may grow beyond in life!

I’m an Eagle, and i will face all the storms of my life!

  51. Anthony Kibet Says:

Amazingly inspirational. This how our forefathers indigenously&metaphorically inculcated cultural knowledge to us in shaping our social inclinations, generations after generations_am gonna have a tattoo of an eagle because i soar with the eagles!!_aspire to inspire before you retire!!

  52. Asher Wagun Says:

Dr. Myles has destroyed every traditionally held beliefs of Christianity..I am truly inspired. God has always wanted his Children to live to their full potential. My mindset has been completely transformed since I started reading his materials. It has added to what I was already finding out from the scriptures. I have made my own personal discovery before I cam across his materials.
The sad fact about Christianity is that we have inherited teachings passed down from generation to generation without discovering anything ourselves and test these commonly held beliefs against our life. If we do I am sure we will realize that we need to step out from the box and face God individually. When God deals with us individually, we must be prepared to break ranks to live life to its full potential. AN EAGLE IS NOT PART OF A COLONY. It is independent because it has to seek its own place in the sun…
    God Bless

  53. Unathi ngaye Says:

    Very inspirational indeed ‘god bless

  54. paa kwesi Says:

God bless you richly Dr. Munroe and can this principles be sent to my mail? Please help me.

  55. Richard Schole Says:

    @ Curious and Concerned:

I am a biologist, and work in eagle country up in Canada. I second every point you’ve made – Mr. Munroe’s work is inspirational, but it is inspirational fiction.

God’s Creation is beautiful enough without bending, twisting, and distorting the facts and attempt to improve on the Father’s handiwork.

Many faith communities honour the eagle. It flies higher than most other birds, and can disappear over the horizon quickly. To ancient people, who moved on foot, or on horseback, the eagle saw more and moved faster than they ever could. The eagle becomes incredibly symbolic and important to many faiths – the Judeo-Christians scriptures mention eagles often, as do North American Aboriginal faith stories, the ancient Egyptian religion, ancient Greek religion, etc.

God created everything as part of a wonderful web of life. The eagle resonates with our curious nature as humans. God created everything wonderful and good – we just seem to be able to remember that better when we see something like an eagle, than, say, a crow.

Dr. Myles, I want to passionately thank you for taking the pains to reform and remould us through the web. In response to your succinct but deep essay on ‘the eagle’, I want to tell myself the truth: I am not yet an eagle! People, events, tides are covertly frustrating that from materializing! But I also believe that THE DEVIL CAN NOT HOLD ON FOREVER! I will become AN EAGLE! That;s the spirit your ministry has pushed in me!

    Thanks, Mr. Myles.

I thank Dr. Monroe for this post and teaching me about the kingdom when I had more questions than the dead church I attended could answer. I can now say that I am an eagle in Jesus’ name.

Thank you, Dr Myles! This is inspiring indeed! whether fiction or real about the eagle, it doesn’t really matter; because the truth is, those attributes would inspire anyone who is willing, to become everything that God created them to be! I would rather open my spiritual eyes and ears to see the bigger picture of myself as a kingdom citizen living here on earth, and to hear what the Spirit of God is saying so that I may walk in that which He predestined for me. Unfortunately for those who are always looking for facts or scientific proof in spiritual matters, may never get to enjoy fellowship with God in His simplicity!

now i understand why God always uses the animals to refer to characters both christian and non-christian eg:( ” go tell that fox..”) , (“….be therefore wise as serpents and innocent as doves”),(“..you brood of vipers…”). there is always something to learn from these animals because they are part of nature,HIS CREATION.bro Branham says my first bible was nature. After studying about most of them you begin to realise some of the secrets hidden in nature,(“..does not even nature itself teach you…”).

  170. Uriel John Says:

I’m fascinated by these wonderful inspirational teachings. I’m a christian and I lived by the sea. The only weaknesses found when observing the eagle bird is that It didn’t have in itself the strong gastric juice to digest or ingest any bones of the fish he feast on. He is too selective, discarding the bones and take in only the flesh. How about the frigates who chew whole the fish and smashed them up in its stomach?
Be encouraged to become eagle christians but sometimes be like the frigate birds, which was known for its nature during storms out in the sea or even on the sea. To consume God’s word without any researvations or selection of the whole no matter what it demands and required.
Anyway, inspite of these defects – the eagles is still the king of the bird kingdoms.

The teachings of Dr Myles have made great impact in my life, family and ministry as a young upcoming minister in Africa. When I heard of his pasing on with the wife…my wife and I cried out to the Lord….asking WHY LORD? Having no option, we prayed and fasted for a united and strong ministry in Bahamas behind them.

My country, Kenya, where Dr Myles made one of his last missions and moving sermons and interviews have made great bench mark for any given serious gospel preacher and teacher.

I would like to get connected to those he mentored inorder to keep the fire burning, remain focused as the eagle and keep networking.

Finally, in my ministry we also conduct leadership seminars and conferences, and though he has departed to be with God, his tapes and videos are quite relevant in such fora. How can these mayerials be obtained?

    To God be the Glory.

    Rev. James Otitoju Says:
I appreciate all your contributions, everyone of you. I see it as a way to develope our learning and understanding. However, the bird eagle was uses in the book of Isaiah to demostrate the life we live as individuals. The strength of an eagle enables her to soar higher than any other birds, and as christians if we would like to soar to greater heights, there are some personality traits of an eagle that we would need to have. One thing I discovered from reading about an eagle is that it doesn’t run away from the storm but faces it head- on. In the storm of live, we should put our trust in God knowing that He has promised to be with us. Psalm 46:1 says: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” May the Lord help us.

  309. Jonathan mulangu Says:

These are very good and up building characteristics of a natural strong bird and very up building principles of life from you Dr.Thank you so much,i wish many leaders especialy here in Africa could think in those lines.

  310. Leeanne Young Holgan Says:

Hi, I’m also a christian and I find your metaphor of the Eagle, wonderful, thank you. I don’t find it necessary to research to prove that you are incorrect. I came across your page because this morning I read this,

When it rains, most birds head for shelter; The Eagle is the only bird that, in order to avoid the rain, starts flying above the clouds.

It wasn’t meant as a metaphor but I immediately saw the metaphor within it so I searched for other information about the eagle. But this is what I posted this morning.

When it rains, most birds head for shelter; To stay within their comfort zone. The Eagle is the only bird that, in order to avoid the rain, starts flying above the clouds. Be an Eagle and avoid the chaos. If you must be present in the rain, visualize putting on your rain gear. The chaos is less likely to permeate.

Eaglets learn to fly on their own. A simple internet search, or a call to your local zoo, would tell you that. eagles.org will teach you. It is sad that so many people hear a heart warming story, then repeat it. This is why our young people want nothing to do with Christianity. We teach them to ā€œstudy to show yourself approvedā€, but we donā€™t bother to do that. Iā€™m sick of the ā€œwarm insideā€ stories that offer shallow heart tingles. Your article was rendered useless to me since you didnā€™t bother to write according to the Spiritā€™s leading. You chose, instead, to write according to your own leasing resulting in a dead work.
